A music festival to celebrate the birthday of the Singing Saint and Composer Thyagaraja
Birmingham Thyagaraja Festival
Thyagaraja Festival is one of the most popular Annual South Indian Classical Music Festival celebrated all over the world to honor and pay homage to the great Singing Saint Thyagaraja.On this day, Carnatic musicians from all over gather,participate and perform in this festival. This also provides a great platform for all upcoming musicians and music lovers to showcase their talent and pay tribute to the Singing Saint for his contribution to Carnatic Music.
The festival aims to promote the vibrant Indian Culture and create great awareness of this rich and diverse style of music to the community.

There are several activities,quizzes and competitions for kids throughout the day.
Competition for children
Colouring competition for kids between 4 – 7 years
Younger children will have a great opportunity to colour and learn more about the various composers and the different Hindu deities, which is essential to Carnatic Music.
Children are please requested to bring in their own colouring sets. The winners will be announced at the festival and all the participants will be awarded a certificate of participation.
Carnatic quiz for children between 8 – 16 years
Trivia questions for children about Carnatic Music, its composers and famous musicians, and aspects of swara (notes) and thala (rhythm ).
Creative Writing competition for children and young adults
To inspire children and young adults to write and enhance their creativity and learning
An ode to the great musician and composer Thyagaraja
Inviting submissions from children.
There are two categories:
Juniors- 6 to 8 years – a half page A4 page write up
Seniors – 8 – 15 years – a full A4 page write up. Your write up must be all your words.
Please submit your write up typed and single sided and double spaced and mail it to email@example.com
Competition is open to all children 15 years and under.
Attractive prizes to be won.There will be one overall winner of the competition and two runners up.
Please include your age and address along with your submission
Winners will be announced on the 8th of March 2015.

Participation in the Festival
Event start time : 9.00 a.m. Registration
There will be various presentations of Carnatic Music, Bharatanatyam, and String instruments by children & adults & professional artists
Lunch break – 1.00 pm-2.00 pm
Prize/awards distribution, followed by Pancharatna Krithis- Group presentation.
All solo entries (Juniors) will be for a maximum of 5 minutes and are on a first come first basis. This is to give every aspiring artist an opportunity to perform on that day.
Concert presentations (professionals/ music teachers) will be for a maximum of 15 minutes. Please do not elaborate on the alapana, neraval and kalpana swaram.
Please inform if you wish to have an accompaniment for the concert or you would be arranging it on oyur own.
